Written by Richard Thomas/ February 24, 2008 The concept that a global flood destroyed all air breathing creatures on this planet is made even more difficult to accept when 8 human souls along with a floating zoo were the only survivors are added to the equation of such a catastrophe. There is only one of two sides to take on the story of Noah and the Ark. Either it happened or it didn't. The account is found in the best selling book of all time - the Bible, specifically in the first book of the Bible - Genesis chapters 6 - 9. This is not an attempt to prove anything. I suppose if a large boat was found on the top of a great mountain, that would be proof enough. No large boat has ever been dragged off Mountains of Ararat and placed on public display. Pieces of wood have been pried out of ice-flows from Ararat placed on display for only a selected few to observe. Which only proves that people want to believe something so much that subjective views get foggy. From 1934 to 1979, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History displayed one of its prize dinosaur specimens with the wrong head, a horse skeleton with a giraffe’s skull. During those 45 years the museum’s great Apatosaurus louisae was displayed with a head that is now regarded as belonging to Camarasaurus—a very different sort of dinosaur. This error supports the constructivist view. For 45 years Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the world, believed in a creature that never existed. Of course, we now know that the Apatosaurus that was accepted for 45 years was a construct, a figment of scientific imagination. But if this could happen at one of the world’s great natural history museums, and, even worse, be accepted by the whole paleontological community. Who is to say that the world’s museums are not still full of such biased imaginations? The fact that must be considered is that the above mentioned creatures did exist with their bones giving evidence of their foundations. In the same way, from time to time, parts of a wooden maritime vessel are expelled from the frigid ice packs 17,000 feet above sea level. There are still many unanswered questions regarding Noah's ark. Perhaps they will never be answered. There is still only one of two sides to the story. Another variable in the equation is the 8 souls that survived the great global flood of Noah's day. On December 28, 2004, a great catastrophe was recorded and broadcast for months. We still drop our jaws as we watch helpless humans lose a battle against the forces of this planet. They that made it to higher ground survived. But this was minisquel compared to the global flood that caused the human population to drop to 8. Can this happen again? Does history repeat? According to astronomer Gerrit L. Verschuur: "It is nearly impossible to admit that our lives might be wiped out through a whim of nature, a chance event, and that may be why it has been so difficult to allow that dramatic mass extinctions of the past happened suddenly. It is even more difficult to admit that another such catastrophe might be triggered by a random collision between the Earth and an object from space. This is the unpleasant likelihood suggested by the data. . . . We assume that mass extinctions happened long ago and that nothing similar will happen again. This scenario is false." Please open your Bible and let us look closely at the life of Noah found in Genesis chapter 6
