"...understand that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD."
[Deuteronomy 8:3b NASB]

The word "understand" is a picture word intended to invoke in the mind of every reader the importance of building our lives on more substance than what fills our belly. In the middle east, particularly the east bank of the Jordan river where [Deuteronomy 8:3] originates. There are four essentials to life. Food, water, shelter and salt. These are life itself. Like a chain that must not be broken. God supplied the basic necessities of life for His children as they made their way across the Sinai desert. But not without complaining. A new generation of Israelites faced the west bank at least 3 million strong that did not originate from Egypt with the exception of Moses, Joshua and Caleb, waiting for the signal to go in and possess the land promised to their father Abraham. However, only two of the original group freed from the slavery of Egypt and the grip of Pharaoh, Joshua and Caleb along with the new generation born in the Sinai desert, would be allowed to enter. Moses would only be allowed to view the promised land from a distance before expiring.[Deuteronomy 34:5 & 6] He would reappear with Elijah and Jesus on the top of the mount of transfiguration, discussing Jesus’ death as predicted in scripture at Jerusalem.[ Matthew 17:1-3; Mark 9:1-4; Luke 9:28-31] Over and over God would express His love for His chosen Israel by supplying all there needs while circling the Sinai for 40 years.[ Deuteronomy 2:14 - 18 ] Now as Israel was poised to enter, God would lay down a recipe for success. To put it simply. If all the words that God spoke were received as one would ingest his/her daily bread, prosperity would be the byproduct. The opposite would produce the adverse and grave markers filling the Sinai desert, like a trail of Burma Shave signs leading back to Egypt, would bear testimony to that fact.

As for our daily bread. God is aware of our need for physical sustaining. In our Lord's prayer, He emphasizes that our focus should be toward the heavenly Father for our daily bread.[ Matthew 6:9-13] Any other source is idolatry. Including ourselves. When Jesus was tested for 40 days in the wilderness. He never relied on His own authority to deliver Himself. To not turn stones into bread meant identification with His brethren [ Hebrews 2:14 - 18 ] and establishes the fact that the Son of God can do nothing of His own initiative, but only what the Father tells Him. [ John 4:34; 5:19 ] When the members of the body of Christ [ the church ] gather for communion the symbols are very specific. The unleavened bread represents His sinless life offered for the salvation of Adam’s race.[ John 6:51 ] The wine, the blood of the Son of God representing the seal of the covenant between God and Adam’s race. [ John 3:16 & 17 ] For every covenant God ever made with humanity was sealed in blood. [ Genesis 8:20-22; 17:9-12; Exodus 24:8; Hebrews 9:11-14; 12:22-24 ] When we come to the last sin offering we find a supernatural connection that cannot be broken for it did not originate with humanity. But came down from the Father of lights as an impartation to all who would acknowledge his/her spiritual bankruptcy and by faith accept the full pardon for transgressions by the Son of God.

This world is not the final resting place for humanity. Although we did not choose our entry nor can we always decide when and how we will depart from it. One thing is for sure. Just as it is appointed once for human beings to be born. There is sure an appointment with death. But one thing we have complete control over is where we will spend eternity. There are two exit doors to choose from this life only. Each door is clearly marked. Both are open to whosoever will. Door number one leads to eternal life with God and is marked Jesus Christ. For we have peace with God, we have access to His throne of grace through Jesus Christ and it is FREE. Door number 2 is marked eternal life without God and is marked with your own name ( idolatry ) as you were the god of your own life and this is of FREE choice. The key that opens the door to business with God is Jesus Christ. Is there anything else that matters more?

"Nothing between my soul and the Savior So that His blessed face may be seen Nothing preventing the least of His favor Keep the way clear! Let nothing between."

Jesus said a wise man will build his house on a solid foundation. [ Matthew 7:24 ] The word house is symbolic and can be interchanged with a variety of terms, i.e. Business, Family, Relationships, Education or Future, to name just a few. "Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain."[ Psalm 127:1 NIV ]

"On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand."

If you are seeking hope for a new life, it all begins with Jesus. Begin Here!

I love these shoes. Really? The same way I love my wife? What's up with the word "love"? It doesn't have much meaning when we use it so loosely. Maybe we don't really get it. Maybe we don't understand what real love is. What it involves to really love somebody. What it means to give yourself to someone else. We mistake things like friendship, commitment or lust for love, but God wired us in a certain way to experience all that love was really meant to be. Not to hold us back or make us miss out on the best that life has to offer. God created love, and wants us to feel it all in the way it's meant to be felt. Flame is the second DVD of the NOOMA(r) series - short films appropriate for personal and small group settings, congregational meetings, and much more. Like parables, they use the experiences of our lives to teach about the fullness of life through Jesus, tackling issues like forgiveness, discipleship, and unconditional love. The study materials accompanying each NOOMA(r) encourage meaningful discussion with relevant questions and biblical references.
